Measures 31 by 23 inches. Signed lower right Schueler 68. A fascinating book has been published about Jon Schueler and his work titled "The Sound of Sleat", edited by Magda Salvesen and Diane Cusineau, published by Picador, New York. Schueler was taught by Clyfford Still and Willem de Kooning, among others. Please see Who Was Who in American Art, page 2941, for an extensive biography of the artist. Schueler exhibited at major galleries, associated with the influential New York dealers and collectors of the day, and was an important part of the Abstract Expressionist movement that evolved in New York in the 1950s through the 1960s.

Two are seated at a table with a bottle; one holds a tumbler, the other a letter. A third figure sits on the floor. Probably Dutch, done in the 17th century style. Signed in pencil on back. Measures 12 and one half by 9 and one half inches. The period gold leaf frame measures 12 and one half by 15 and one half inches.

The painting measures 7 by 9 and one half inches, and the original gold leaf frame measures 12 and one quarter by 9 and one quarter inches. Unsigned.

- - - - - | Russian oil painting on canvas by Adolf Stoiloff Item # 6479 Click HERE to inquire about this item Russian oil painting on canvas by Adolf BAUMGARTNER Stoiloff. (1850-1924) Running from the wolves. This painting is in original condition, it has never been relined. No tears or repairs. The painting measures 32 by 20 inches and is signed Stoiloff lower left. Adolf Baumgartner-Stoiloff was born in 1850 in Linz (Austria) and died in in 1924 Vienna. He studied at St. Petersburg Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in the 1880s. He was very well known as a horse painter. In 1890s-1900s his Russian scenes with cossaks and hunters were often published in various European magazines. He worked under various pseudonyms signing his paintings with "A.Baumgartner-Stoiloff" , "Stoiloff", "Constantin Stoiloff" or "C.Stoiloff".

This unsigned oil on canvas painting measures 27 by 21 inches, and the frame measures 31 by 23 inches. There are two small repaired holes to the canvas, which has not been relined.
