Cecile Dreesmann own village bank needle sculpture. Title "Ceciles Own Village Band. Made with Fire Opal, Epidot, Rhodochrosite, various Quartzes, Gold, Freshwater Pearls and Molten Silver. Measures 21 and a quarter by 13 inches. This is her signature piece. She feature it on the front cover of the book she wrote entitled "Cecile"Born and raised in Amsterdam Holland. Exhibited in Brussels, Hamburg, Cape Town, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Honolulu, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco, Palm Beach "The Potted Orange" Gallery, Hammond Museum N Y, England, Canada, Mexico, Holland,Paris, and Germany. When she held a two week exhibition in picturesque Laren, just outside of Amsterdam 12,000 people came and it was a complete sell out. H. R. H. Prince Bernhard spent several hours at the exhibition, followed a few days later by his daughter the Crown Princess Beatrix, both collectors of Miss Dreemanns work. She authored countless books and articles on embroidery and related subjects. The precious and semi precious stones are all set in gold and cut to her specifications,drilled and or set so that the could be stitched on the background material,which was woven especially for her in Italy. She received Knighthood in the Order of Oranje Nassau,conferred upon her by H. M. Queen Juliana of the Netherlands. John Schueler oil painting Mallaig Vaig Scotland 1958. This oil on canvas by "Jon Schueler" was painted in Scotland and given as a gift to his companion Elise. Measures 80 inches by 71 inches and is signed on the front and back. This is a very important painting by Jon because it was painted in Scotland where he had his studio and exhibited at the world famous New York gallery of Hirsch and Adler. The original gallery sticker is on the reverse side of the painting. Hand written "Jon Schueler Winter Sunday Mallaig Vaig,1958" There has just been a book published about Jon Schueler and his work entitled "The Sound of Sleat" edited by Magda Salvesen and Diane Cusineau published by Picador New York which mentions Schueler in Mallaig Vaig and his connection with Elise. Jon Schueler was taught by Clyfford Still and Willem de Kooning. See Who Was Who in American Art page 2941 where there is huge biography on the artist. Jon Schueler was one of the best artists of his day. He exhibited at the major galleries, hung out with the important collectors,dealers in New York City and was very important part of the Abstract expressionist movement that took place in New York in the 1950 to 1960 period and had many exhibitions at the countries premier galleries of the day.
