This watercolor depicts cars passing horse drawn carriages in a city with people standing around and men in top hats. Signed top left by artist, Raleigh C1900. This wonderful art pieces frame measures 12 inches by 26 inches and the image measures 4 and one half by 18 and one half inches.Henry Patrick Raleigh was an etcher, illustrator, lithographer, painter. Born in Portland, OR September 23, 1880. Moved to San Francisco with his family in 1888. Studied at Mark Hopkins Art Institute 1896-1901, first job as a sketch artist for San Francisco Examiner. William Randolph Hearst noticed his talent and encouraged him to move to NYC, and he did in 1913. Illustrated for Harper's Bazaar, Saturday Evening Post, Colliers. The City Scene, By Henry Patrick Raleigh, is a very well documented piece. This artist is well listed and his works hang in the following museums: University Of Michigan Museum Of Art Neuberger Museum Of Art, Brandywine River Museum, Henry Patrick Raleigh, 1880-1945

This original "Peter Helck" scratched etching depicts a driver racing his vintage automobile. The process to make this art piece is quite unique. The artist applies ink that he then scratches off the surface to create the image. This original Helck art piece dates from the early 20th century and measures 9 inches by 6 and one quarter inches. The frame measures 19 and one quarter inches by 16 and three eighths inches. Excellent original condition with one later surface scratch which is shown in the blow up of the driver.Reference Great Auto Races as Told and Painted by Peter Helck, Abrams, page 230.
